Staatelijke gezichtsherkenning

Bridges [2020] EWCA Civ 1058: not in accordance with the law for Article 8(2). ICO MPN 18 mei 2022: about 721 searches using Probe Images door vijf UK-diensten. Axon, 2 december 2025: This is not a launch.

UK LFR: live feed vs watchlist

«LFR is a real-time deployment of facial recognition technology, which compares a live camera feed (or multiple feeds) of faces against a predetermined watchlist, in order to locate persons of interest by generating an alert when a possible match is found.»

Bridges: LFR niet ‘in accordance with the law’

«The Respondent’s use of Live Automated Facial Recognition technology on 21 December 2017 and 27 March 2018 and on an ongoing basis, which engaged Article 8(1) of the European Convention on Human Rights, was not in accordance with the law for the purposes of Article 8(2).»

«The Commissioner understands that at least 5 UK law enforcement organisations used the service during the UK Test Phase, and that some of them returned matches for individuals of interest to them. The Commissioner also understands that a total of about 721 searches using Probe Images were carried out by 5 different UK law enforcement agencies during the UK Test Phase.»

Bodycam + FR: Axon evalueert in veld

«That's why we're taking the next step in our research and development process by beginning a limited evaluation with the Edmonton Police Service in Alberta, Canada. This is not a launch. It's early-stage field research focused on understanding real-world performance, operational considerations, and the safeguards needed for responsible use.»

«Real-time remote biometric identification in publicly accessible spaces is prohibited, subject to narrow exceptions for law enforcement.»
